Summer brings visions of vibrant, lush flowers in abundance to mind.  As you plan your summer vow renewal, let these visions guide your flower plans. We have great ideas for all kinds of vow renewals from a formal country club affair, to a garden gals, or even a beachside bash.

As you start planning your flowers, there are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to flowers in the summer. First, stick with seasonal flowers as they will be less likely to wilt and discolor prematurely.  Second, now is the time to take advantage of the vibrancy and diversity of summer flowers and be bold with your color scheme. Finally, make sure that bouquets and centerpieces have plenty of water and limit extreme heat conditions as much as possible. When temperatures soar, keep flowers in air conditioning or refrigeration as long as possible. Hand-tied bouquets should be placed in water when not in use.  Now that you know the basics of summer flowers let’s get to the ideas!

Express yourself with color!

Summer bouquets and arrangements can be as bold and bright as you desire. Mix pastels with brights for a more subdued style or take it bold with all brights for a sophisticated or fun look. If you’re looking for interesting and unique color schemes, you might consider combinations like orange and yellow, red and purple, coral and turquoise, fuchsia and green, orange and chartreuse, or hot pink and navy. A monochromatic color scheme featuring flowers in different shades and textures is also a wonderfully sophisticated take on summer brights.

Summer Bouquets

Summer presents you with countless different types of flowers that you can use for your bouquet. Some popular flowers include roses, gardenias, freesia, hydrangea, lilies, peonies, daisies, sunflowers, magnolias, delphiniums, dahlias, orchids and wax flowers.

Create something extraordinary bouquets with monochromatic color schemes, bright colors, and special details.  A monochromatic bouquet in yellows, oranges, purples, pinks, or reds is a wonderful accent to a sophisticated dress. Accent a hand-tied bouquet with a patterned ribbon in a stripe, print, polka dot, or gingham pattern. Special little details like butterflies, jewels, hummingbirds, or shells on wires mixed in with the flowers in your bouquet are a wonderful way to tie in your theme.

Summer Centerpieces

Summer is the perfect time to do something colorful and fun with your centerpieces.  Between the abundance of citrus and other fruits and colorful flowers, you’re sure to find a combination that suits your vow renewal style perfectly. Lemons, limes, oranges, berries, grapes and even peaches make excellent centerpieces accents. Whole or sliced citrus fruits make beautiful vase filler.  Berries, grapes, and peaches are lovely mixed in with flowers in arrangements.

For an interesting twist, fill hollowed out coconuts, watermelons, honeydew melons, or cantaloupe with flowers for a beach, tropical, or casual theme. Another great centerpiece idea is to place single blooms in a collection of small jars, vases, pots, or bowls. Tall grasses are a great way to add easy height to arrangements.
