The Chocolate Ceremony

Meaning – This ceremony is a lovely addition for couples that truly enjoy chocolate.  It represents that chocolate provides nourishment to the soul and that life can be sweet and bitter – both like a marriage can be.

Time – About 2 to 3 minutes in length

Supplies – A small portion of both high quality dark and milk chocolate

Placement – The chocolate ceremony can be placed anywhere in the ceremony, but it is often conducted just before the vows

Example of the wording for this Enhancement:

Officiant:

_____ and _____ share a love of chocolate.  Today they are going to feed each other small bites of chocolate which are being used as a representation of what they expect out of the next chapter of their marriage.

Chocolate, in any of its forms, provides our bodies with nourishment.  Chocolate not only feeds our bodies, but it also can nourish our souls.  For _____ and _____, chocolate is a special treat that they indulge in every once in a while for these very reasons.  Today,_____ and _____ recognize that their marriage is also a sweet treat that brings joy to their lives and nourishes their souls.

Throughout your lives together you have had and will continue to have times that are like eating your favorite chocolates; sweet and filled with a favorite flavor: raspberry, orange, or caramel.  At other times, you will experience the dark and bittersweet side of life, like the darkest of chocolates.

_____ please take a piece of the dark chocolate and feed it to _____. Now _____, please feed _____ a bite of the dark chocolate.

Right now you both are experiencing the more bitter side of chocolate together.  Just as in life you experience those more bitter times together.

_____ now take a piece of the milk chocolate and feed it to _____.
And _____, please feed _____ a bite of the milk chocolate.

At this moment you are both experiencing the sweet side of chocolate together.  These bites of chocolate represent the wonderful sweet life that you two have together.

Nothing is truer than the statement made in the movie “Forrest Gump”.  Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you are going to get, but by sharing these chocolates together today _____ and _____ acknowledge this fact and proceed forward into their marriage prepared to deal with it all together.
