Q. Are Children Automatically Included in an Invitation?

A. Invitations should be addressed to all invitees on the outer envelope.  For example, if the invitation is addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Smith, your hosts intend for just the two of you to attend; if you have children as well, they are not invited. Or if the invitation is addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Family, your hosts intend for your children to attend as well.

Remember, your hosts had to make guest selection decisions based on budgetary constraints, venue limitations, or simply because it may not be a child-oriented event.

Please be sure to indicate exactly how many of you are attending when you send your response card (if only one of you can attend, make sure that is indicated clearly so that the hosts can plan accordingly). It is never appropriate to respond with additional guest counts than were intended on the invitation.
