A Getaway for Two – Bringing the Essentials

You’ve planned. You’ve prepared. Now it’s time to pack! When it comes to packing for your second honeymoon, you can’t be too prepared, right? After all, it’s been a long time coming, and you want it to be perfect. But wait a moment – who is going to carry all that luggage? But then, you also don’t want to have to buy a bunch of stuff you could have simply brought with you either. The solution? Our essential second honeymoon packing checklist will keep you looking great and still keep you covered for emergencies. Note, you might need to tweak this list for destination, activities, season, personal preferences, etc.

  • Airline tickets or e-ticket confirmation
  • Passport/visas/driver’s license
  • Credit cards (take only those you’ll need)
  • Cell Phone and Charger/Camera
  • Prescription medicine (in the original bottle)
  • Contraception
  • Travel locks and ID tags for luggage
  • Hotel/theater reservation fax confirmations
  • Two sets of photocopies of all of the above, plus a photocopy of related medical and/or trip insurance coverage and prescriptions (carry one set with you, leave one in the hotel room)
  • Phone numbers for your doctor, house/pet sitter, and credit card companies (in case your cards are lost or stolen)

Her Essentials for a Week:

  • 1 pair jeans/pants
  • 2-3 pairs shorts/capris
  • 4 casual shirts
  • 2-3 sundresses/casual dresses
  • 1 little black dress
  • 1 cardigan (for chilly restaurants)
  • light jacket or pullover
  • 2 swimsuits
  • 1 swimsuit cover-up
  • 1 pair walking shoes/sandals
  • 1 pair evening shoes/sandals
  • Extra socks and underwear
  • Bras (strapless and otherwise)
  • Accessories (scarves and jewelry)
  • 1 evening purse

His Essentials for a Week:

  • 1-2 pair jeans or khakis
  • 1 pair nice slacks
  • 2-3 pairs shorts
  • 4 casual shirts
  • 2 polo or button-down short-sleeve shirts
  • 1 sports jacket (for nicer restaurants)
  • light jacket or pullover
  • 1 swimsuit
  • 1 pair walking shoes/sandals
  • 1 pair lace-ups/dress shoes
  • Extra socks and underwear

His/Her Bathroom Essentials:

  • Comb/brush
  • Contact lens and re-wetting solution, storage case
  • Cosmetics
  • Cotton balls and swabs
  • Deodorant
  • Hair accessories
  • Hair gel/spray
  • Make-up remover
  • Nail file/clippers
  • Razors
  • Shaving cream
  • Toothbrushes
  • Travel-size toothpaste

Optional Items (your hotel may provide):

  • Shampoo and conditioner

  • 1 pair workout sneakers and 2-3 workout outfits if you plan on visiting the resort’s gym or jogging on the beach
  • Anti-bacterial liquid or lotion
  • Compact umbrella or rain ponchos

  • Extra pair of glasses/contacts
  • Sewing kit
  • Shout Wipes for stains
  • Small backpack(s) for day excursions and impromptu picnics
  • Visine
  • Ziplock bags (all sizes; use for packing wet swimsuits or protecting camera and film when it rains)

Leave Behind With Family or Friends:

  • Your itinerary and hotel phone numbers
  • Photocopies of your passport, credit cards, and traveler’s check receipts
  • A sealed copy of your wills, life insurance-policy numbers, and pertinent financial info
