A. A cocktail reception includes alcoholic drinks and hors d’oeuvres. It can begin as early as 4 p.m. but no later than 6 p.m. and typically ends by 7:30 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres can be passed by tray, served buffet-style, or some combination of both.

You can either offer a traditional bar with an assortment of hard liquor, mixers, wine, champagne, and soft drinks or signature cocktails. Traditional hors d’oeuvres include a hot and cold appetizers, as well as fine cheeses, bread, fruits, and crudites.

The cost of a cocktail reception depends primarily on the selection of alcohol and hors d’oeuvres offered but typically runs $20 to $40 a person.
